This Chief’s ring or “mpƐtea” depicts a frog. Inspired by 16th to 19th century Ghanaian chieftain jewellery from the Akan, Ashanti and Asante cultures. Commonly associated with royalty, the depiction of the frog alludes to the proverb “A frog’s length is only apparent after death” meaning a chief’s contributions and leadership is more significant after the reign.
