Within the ancient culture of the Nigerian Benin empire, which thrived from the 15th through the 19th century, the leopard hip ornament was given by the Oba (King) to Benin warriors as a symbol of authority to carry out executions.

About the brand:
Origho immortalises and re-interpretes heritage and culture, fusing rich traditional craftsmanship with modern technologies to create forms that empower, educate, and inspire social change. This collection is inspired by the intricately crafted gold and bronze regalia of revered African tribes including Ashanti, Akan and Asante of Ghana, Baule of Côte d’Ivoire, and Benin of Nigeria.
The collection uses a multicultural approach by fusing ancient African craftsmanship with modern western and European silhouettes to create unique works of art that educate on history and heritage.
